Orchard Blossom Time Webinar – 21 February 2024
For anyone interested in participating in Orchard Blossom Day (and Orchard Blossom Season activities), and if you missed the first one, there’s a second chance to attend a free webinar on Wednesday, 21 February 2023 at 18:00 by PTES and Orchard Network.
The webinar will consider the three ‘B’s’ and two ‘C’s’ of why we should celebrate and promote orchard blossom – Beauty, Bounty, Biodiversity, Community and Culture.
There’ll also be lots of event ideas from around the UK and Ireland, and where and when to have an event. Blossom comes out from late March to early May, depending on where you are in the UK, so plan your events and keep an eye on the weather, and the buds!
Suggestions for events and activities have been based on the experiences of groups and communities in past years around the country. For example, blossom trails such as the Vale of Evesham, Citizen Science projects for spotting and recording when the blossom appears, and blossom picnics, such as NTS Priorwood’s picnic under the blossom.
NTS Priorwood First Off the Mark!
Congratulations to the National Trust for Scotland Priorwood Gardens for being the first organisation in Scotland to add their blossom event to the UK map!
They are inviting you to join them under the blossom in Priorwood Gardens, Melrose Abbey, Abbey Street, Melrose, TD6 9PX, to celebrate Orchard Blossom Day, with a picnic on Sunday 5th May 2024, from 10.00 am to 5.00pm.
Register your event or activities on the map.
Introducing Orchard Blossom Day 2024
This year, Orchard Revival will be helping people and communities across Scotland, to celebrate one of nature’s wonders – fruit tree blossom, and the beauty, bounty and biodiversity it brings!
Orchard Blossom Day is scheduled to take place on 29th April, but since blossom comes out a different times depending on where you live, your celebration might be earlier or later.
Our friends at PTES and the Orchard Network have produced some wonderful resources to help you think of some ideas for running events, whether you have fruit trees in your garden or community growing space, look after a community orchard, or are a commercial grower.
There are ideas for everyone, from holding a guided tour or open day, having a blossom picnic, spotting blossom time, spotting pollinators, getting creative with art, crafts, poems and song inspired by the blossom to tastings of the orchard produce made by producers…and lots more!
Visit the PTES website for ideas for organising an event, and there’s also a Publicity Pack to help spread the word.
There is also an Introduction to Orchard Blossom Day for more detail about the new celebration, and information about our friends in Europe for European Orchard Day celebrations.
If you are running an event for visitors, there is guidance about how you can go about this, and resources for promoting it.
You can register your project and have it added to the UK map, and we look forward to seeing it covered in exciting projects!
